What is Recreational Cheerleading – This is a course where athletes train 1 day a week in a 1 hour session. Athletes learn a choreographed routine that helps them develop teamwork, leadership and, safety skills that aid them throughout life. We have a wide range of ages that can participate and that is normal in our sport. It is common for us to have teams with 8-9 years of age difference in teams.
What is required – There are no pre-requisites, all experiences are welcome. Most people who participate in recreational cheer have little to no experience in cheerleading. There are no mandatory attendance policies, no competition fees, no apparel fees, and no other fees besides the one-time program course fee.
What to wear to practice – Please wear your official Limelight T-shirt to practice. Also, please wear any comfortable shorts, leggings, or sweatpants. Shoes are required as well and should not be outdoor shoes. We must ensure that our shoes are clean, therefore we do not allow outdoor shoes. Please use any comfortable running shoe with a smooth bottom. Rough edges on shoes can be painful when stunting on one another.
What is happening during Covid19 – We are following guidelines set forth by the government, our provincial and national organizations as well as implementing protocol specific to our program. We maintain a 6ft distance between athletes currently. We focus on tumbling, dance, jumps and choreography during this time. Once we are able to have contact then we will begin stunting. All athletes wear masks when they enter and exit the building, all coaches wear masks throughout the classes, our lobby is closed, and we do daily screening of everyone. And, most importantly, we are sanitizing multiple times a day.
